Misappropriation of Tk 1.62 b: HC rejects bail to Rupali Bank AGM Monoranjan

The High Court on Tuesday rejected a bail petition filed by an Assistant General Manager of Rupali Bank Limited, Monoranjan Das, in a case filed on charge of misappropriating of Tk 1.62 billion by mortgaging false documents of a Bangladesh Railway land.
The High Court Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order after discharging a rule issued in this regard.
Earlier on October 14, the same High Court Bench issued a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why Monoranjan Das should not be granted bail.
Advocate Md Azim Uddin appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner, Advocate Md Ashif Hassan appeared for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the State.
Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on August 4 accusing 10 persons including Monoranjan Das on charge of misappropriating of Tk 1.62 billion by mortgaging false documents of a Bangladesh Railway land.
On September 15 this year, a special court of Dhaka sent Monoranjan Das to jail in the case rejecting his bail petition.
The other accused of the case are: former Managing Director of Rupali Bank M Farid Uddin, former Deputy Managing Director of the bank Md Neyamatullah, former branch Manager Md Siraj Uddin, former Principal Officer Md Kamal Uddin, former Deputy Managing Director Syed Abul Monsur, former Principal Officer Abu Naser Md Riazul Hoque , Chairman of HR Spinning Mills Limited Shaheen Rahman, Managing Director Md Habibur Rahman and Director Md Masudur Rahman.
It was said in the case statement that the incidents of the fraud have been executed from March 8, 2011 to March 31, 2019. The leased land of Narayanganj railway was illegally mortgaged for sanctioning loan to HR Spinning Mills.
