Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Monday rejected a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Jatiya Party Chairman Andalib Rahman Partho seeking its directives upon the Election Commission for using EVM at his Constituency in the December 30 election.
The High Court Bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after hearing on the petition.
Following the High Court order, the EC will not set up EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) in his Constituency Bhola-1.
Petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Ahsanul Karim told the reporters that his client recently filed the petition seeking the HC directives upon the EC for using EVM at his (Bhola-1) Constituency in the election so that the voters cast their votes without any hindrance and the ballot paper counting goes smoothly.
Andalib Rahman Partho apprehends that the voters may not cast their votes in a fair manner as Tofail Ahmed, who is the sitting lawmaker from the Constituency and an influential Minister, may influence the election, the lawyer said.
Replying to a question, Advocate Ahasul Karim said, his client has not yet instructed him to move any appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the HC order.
