Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday questioned the authorities’ failure to curb mosquito menace at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The court issued a rule asking the respondents to explain in four weeks as to why their inaction to kill mosquitoes in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and its surrounding areas should not be declared illegal.
In the rule, the HC also asked them to show cause as to why they should not be directed to take urgent steps to tackle the mosquito menace there.
Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Chairman of Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation and Councilor of the Ward concerned of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been made respondents to the rule.
The HC bench of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by
Supreme Court lawyer Tanvir Ahmed seeking its directive on the respondents to take steps for tackling the mosquito menace at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
During hearing, Advocate Tanvir told the court that domestic and foreign passengers are affected by mosquitoes’ bite at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport which damages the image of the country.
Sadly the respondents are not taking effective steps to contain the mosquito menace at the Airport, he argued.
