UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Thursday ordered the authorities concerned to produce on January 19 two inmates of Kishoreganj Jail who have been languishing there without trial for long.
An HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order and asked the authorities concerned to submit the documents of the cases before the court. The HC also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the two accused, languishing in jail without trial over a decade, should not be given bail. The Kirhoreganj District Magistrate was asked to respond the rule within ten days.
The two imprisoned accused are: Shafiqul Islam alias Swapan and Sabed Ali.
Following an investigative report of a private TV channel, aired on December 12 last, Lawyer Kumar Debul Dey of the National Legal Aid Services Organisation drew the attention of the High Court in this connection.
According to the report, Shafiqul Islam has been serving in the jail since April 25, 2001 while Sabed Ali from June 29, 2003 in two separate murder cases.
