HC orders to complete pending cases in 6 months

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday directed the District and Session Courts to complete within six months all the trial proceeding of the criminal cases pending in their courts for last 10 years.
The court also directed the judges to submit the list of those cases to the lower court management committee of the Supreme Court in a month.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also directed the Supreme Court Registrar General to communicate its directive to all the District and Session Judges across the country.
The HC bench passed the order, while hearing a bail petition filed by one Shariful seeking bail in a robbery case.
Examining the bail petition, the judges found that the case was filed with Raipura Police Station in Narsingdi on February 27, 2007 on charge of committing robbery in a passenger bus in the district, but the trial proceedings of the case have not been finished yet.
The High Court yesterday granted bail to Shariful in the case, Assistant Attorney General Yusuf Mahbub Morshed told the reporters.
Law Minister Advocate Anisul Huq on Monday said in the Parliament that total 35 lakh 69 thousand 750 cases are pending in the lower and higher courts across the country. Among them, 20 thousand 442 cases in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, 5 lakh 16 thousand 652 cases in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court and 30 lakh 32 thousand 652 cases are pending in the lower courts.
