UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered the Election Commission (EC) to give ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol to Nazrul Islam instead of Nadim Mostafa in the Rajshahi-5 constituency.
Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam’s bench gave the order after hearing a writ petition, said Nazrul’s layer Advocate Minhazul Haque Chowdhury.
The court also issued a rule seeking an explanation why the symbol allocation of Nadim would not be declared illegal.
Nadim’s nomination was declared illegal by the returning officer on December 2 for reasons, including loan default. BNP later selected Nazul as its candidate.
But Nadim got his candidacy back after moving the EC. Later, the BNP declared him as its final candidate for the Rajshahi-5 constituency.
Nazrul moved the High Court saying the party’s move to select Nadim over him went against the Representation of the People Order (LRPOJ).
