UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court has urged the media to refrain from writing reports on any case under trial.
The High Court issued a notice signed by its Registrar M Golam Rabbani on Thursday in this regard.
The notice said some electronic and print media run reports and scrolls on
cases under trial which is totally unexpected. “Under the circumstances, all concerned are requested to refrain from running reports and scrolls on any sub-judice matter,” it said.
Meanwhile, Law Reporters Forum (LRF) expressed its sadness and shock at the High Court directive and urged the authorities concerned to withdraw the notice.
It made the call in a letter sent to Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.
The letter said law beat journalists have long been writing reports on Bangabandhu murder case, jail killing case and war crimes cases whereby people could know details about those. “It’s playing a helpful role in establishing judiciary’s transparency.”
Citing the remarks of the Chief Justice made on April 9 urging journalists to ‘write whatever they see in the courtroom’, the letter said the HC notice is contradictor to his comments as well as independent journalism.
