The High Court on Sunday asked the police to further refrain from harassing five top BNP leaders, including Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, without due process of law.
The two other leaders are BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul.
After analogous hearing on the writ petitions filed separately, an HC division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice M Habibul Gani passed the orders.
On the night of November 8 last year, plainclothes police arrested BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah from the city’s Karwanbazar area as they came out of Sonargaon Hotel. On the following day, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas was arrested from in front of BNP chairperson’s Gulshan residence.
