The High Court (HC) on Tuesday directed the government to bear all medical cost for treatment of Shahanur Biswas who was injured by miscreants for protesting the stalking of his daughter in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.
The HC also ordered the Inspector General of Police and Jhenidah Superintendent of Police to provide security to Shahanur and his family members.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order
after receiving a report submitted by police on arrest of the accused in connection with two cases filed over stalking two girls and injuring their father, Shahanur.
Police submitted the report in compliance with the HC’s order to arrest the accused in 72 hours. Police said in the report that they had arrested all the 16 accused of the cases.
The HC on November 22 directed police to arrest within 72 hours the criminals in connection with the attack on Shahnur Biswas for protesting the stalking of his daughter. The HC bench passed the order following a report published in a Bengali daily on November 22.
On October 16, a gang of stalkers attacked Shahnur Biswas, an inhabitant of Naldanga village of the upazila, when he protested their stalking of his daughter. The stalkers beat him indiscriminately, leaving his seriously injured.
The miscreants thrashed him with sledge-hammer, chisel, and iron bar resulting profuse bleeding, according to the report. Shahnur’s elder daughter was forced to quit her studies following the ceaseless stalking by the alleged criminals, added the report.
Shahanur underwent amputation of both of his legs and he is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in the capital.
A case was filed with the Kaliganj Police Station in this connection. The stalkers are also reportedly threatening the victim’s family to withdraw the case, according to the published report.
