The High Court (HC) on Thursday deferred till Sunday the delivery of its order on a writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the legality of the government’s decision to take her back to jail from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil, deferred the date after Khaleda Zia’s lawyer placed a supplementary petition before it, Khaleda’s lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal told the reporters.
The lawyer, however, did not disclose the contents of the supplementary petition.
Khaleda was admitted to BSMMU on October 6 as per HC directive and was taken back to jail on November 8.
The BNP chief submitted the petition on November 11 seeking an HC order on the government to send her to a specialized hospital.
On November 13, the HC bench concluded hearing on the writ petition and fixed Thursday (yesterday) for passing order on the matter.
On October 4, the High Court directed the government to immediately admit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for her treatment and to reconstitute the five-member medical board formed by the government.
