The High Court has fixed October 18 to deliver order on sentencing a school boy two years jail on charge of threatening the local MP on social media Facebook.
A HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das fixed the date after a short hearing on Wednesday.
Recently, a national daily reported that a minor boy was awarded two years imprisonment on charge of threatening an MP in Tangail.
Anupam Shahjahan Joy, Member of the Parliament from Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur) filed the GD with the Sakhipur Police Station on September 16 alleging that Sabbir Sikder, a class nine student of Protima Banik Public High School, threatened him on social media.
UNO and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Rafiqul Islam sentenced him two years jail under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. Officer In-charge of Sakhipur Police Station Maksudul Alam sent the
minor boy to Tangail District Prison on Monday.
However, Sabbir claimed that he did not post anything against the MP. He alleged that the police along with the MP clubbed him severely and took statement from him under duress.
The HC summoned the UNO and OC after Supreme Court lawyer Khurshid Alam brought the news to the court’s attention.
