The High Court (HC) on Monday fixed January 26 for delivering the order on four female prisoners, who have been serving in jail for more than seven years in four separate murder cases without trial.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Devnath passed the order after hearing the cases.
Earlier on November 30, 2016, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice J M B Hassan asked the authorities of Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail to produce four female prisoners before the court on January 16 after Supreme Court Legal Aid committee member Ainun Nahar Siddiqua brought the information to the attention of the HC bench.
The HC also issued a rule in this connection. The court asked the government to explain as to why the four women prisoners should not be granted bail. Besides, the HC also sought files and documents of the cases.
The jail authorities produced them in the court on Monday complying the
HC’s earlier order. Then Advocate Ainun Nahar Siddiqua submitted case documents before the court.
Lates, the Judges talked with the female prisoners one by one and tried to know about them and their cases.
The four female prisoners are: Rani alias Nupur hailing from Mymensingh district, Razia Sultana from Gazipur district, Shahnaz Begum and Sumi Akter Reshma from Narayanganj district.
Nupur was sent to jail on November 21 in 2009 while Razia on May 21 in 2009, Shahnaz on September 16 in 2008, and Sumi landed in jail on January15 in 2009.
Though they were produced in the court several times for hearings, the cases have not been disposed yet.
