HC, lower courts to operate virtually

Judicial proceedings of the High Court and lower courts will be conducted virtually on a limited scale till August 5 as the government has imposed strict lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus infection, reports BSS.
Mohammad Saifur Rahman, spokesperson and special officer of the Supreme Court, told BSS that a full-court meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on July 23 with the participation of judges of the Appellate Division and High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
It was unanimously decided at the full court meeting that till August 5, three judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court will hold hearing on urgent matters virtually on writ and civil, criminal, company and admiralty and pass interim orders.
The meeting also decided unanimously that all the officers and employees of the Supreme Court should be vaccinated by July 31.
Further decisions in this matter will be taken at the next full court meeting after August 5, the official said.
The government imposed strict restrictions from July 23 to August 5 to contain the spread of coronavirus as the pandemic has so far claimed the lives of more than 18,498 people and infected more than 11,36,503 others across the country.
Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and army personnel have been deployed in the field for strictly impose the lockdown restrictions till that time.
