Newly appointed Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has said that a monitoring cell headed by a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court will be formed for each of the eight divisions of the country in order to resolve case backlog in all lower courts and bring transparency in the judicial process.
Progress reports will be taken from each of them every month, said the Chief Justice adding that older cases will be supervised and monitored with utmost importance for early disposing of them.
The new Chief Justice said this in a felicitation program accorded by the Attorney General’s office and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), in the chief justice’s courtroom in the Supreme Court.
According to the custom, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin on behalf of the Attorney General’s Office and later on behalf of the SCBA its Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal delivered separate speeches welcoming the new Chief Justice.
Terming corruption as a cancer, newly appointed Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has desired that he will not give minimum indulgence to any evil wound in the judiciary. He is hopeful that he will get everyone by his side in taking any step to eliminate the opacity, irregularity, laziness and incompetence of all the branches of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique said, “I want to express my desire to the all concerned persons related to the judiciary that I will not give minimum indulgence to any evil wound in the judiciary. Corruption is a cancer. If a finger is infected with cancer, the best way is to cut off that finger. I will not compromise corruption. If identified, the next action will be taken immediately by suspending him whoever is the staff or officer.”
“I am hopeful that I will get everyone by my side in taking any step to eliminate the opacity, irregularity, laziness and incompetence of all the branches of the Supreme Court,” added the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice said, “A preliminary inquiry committee will be formed for immediate probe into the allegations of irregularities against the officers and employees of the both the divisions of the Supreme Court.”
The new Chief Justice said, “The bar and the bench are like the two wings of a bird. And the judiciary is the whole body of that bird. I believe that justice for the common people of this country can be ensured by strengthening the two wings equally. It is not possible to run the courts in any way without the cooperation of the bar.”
He said, “Despite having many problems, if we work sincerely we will be able to solve the problems of the judiciary with the grace of the Almighty. A state cannot be strong if one of the three organs of the state is weak or problematic. That is why I believe that the other two organs of the state will play a visible and effective role in solving the problems of the judiciary from their respective positions.”
He said, “It should be remembered that giving justice to the common people is not a favor to them, but its a natural right of them. All the judges of the country have a duty to ensure the inalienable right of the people to justice with impartiality, fearlessness and independence.”
Judges of the both the divisions of the Supreme Court, lawyers and law officers, among others, were also present on the occasion.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal said various corruptions and irregularities have taken place in the judicial administration. One has to spend extra money in every step after filing a case. I kindly request you to decide what to do on a priority basis to solve all these problems.”
