The High Court (HC) on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 12 BNP leaders for eight weeks or till the police report, which comes first.
BNP Joint-Secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon, President of Dhaka South City BNP Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohel, Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Aman Ullah Aman and President of Dhaka South City
Jubodal Rafiqul Alam Maznu were among them.
The HC bench of Justice Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order after hearing four separate bail petitions filed by the accused persons. The accused persons were present in the court at the hearing time.
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Zainul Abedin and Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon took part in the hearing in favour of the bail petitioners and Deputy Attorney General Sheikh A K M Moniruzzaman Kabir stood for the state.
Sagir Hossain said that, a demonstration programme was arranged on October 10 in 2017 in front the Naya Paltan office of BNP after arrest warrant had been issued against the party Chairperson. There were chase and counter-chase between the police and the activists. That day, police filed four separate cases with Paltan and Motijheel Police Stations against 12 leaders and activists of the party.
