The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why a directive would not be given to form a commission to investigate the arson attack in Longadu upazila of Rangamati.
An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued
the rule after hearing a writ petition.
The court also asked the authorities concerned to explain why the commission would not assess the damages suffered by the victims.
Deputy attorney general Taposh Kumar Biswas stood for the government.
The Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Secretary and the IGP have been asked to respond to the rule within eight weeks.
The court also asked the Cabinet Secretary to submit a compliance report within three months after formation of the commission.
The court also fixed November 3 for the next hearing.
