The High Court on Tuesday felt embarrass to hear a writ petition filed for seeking Tk 10 crore as compensation for the family of Abrar Fahad, a BUET student who was brutally killed by Bangladesh Chhatra League men inside a university residential hall.
At the same time, the court dropped the writ petition from its cause-list.
The High Court bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order after placing of the writ petition by a Supreme Court lawyer, A K M Foyez.
Advocate A K M Foyez appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petition while Deputy Attorney General Saifuddin Khaled stood for the state.
The petition was filed on Sunday seeking compensation for the family of Abrar Fahad and a judicial inquiry into the murder of the BUET student.
The lawyer said that he would submit the petition in another bench of the High Court later.
Abrar Fahad, a second-year-student of the university’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, was beaten to death allegedly by some BCL leaders at Amit Saha’s room between 7:30pm Sunday and 2:30am Monday.
The incident triggered a firestorm of protests on campuses across the country. Many took to the social media to demand justice for Abrar.
Law enforcers suspect, Abrar was attacked because of one of his recent Facebook posts, which seemed critical of some recent deals with India.
Later, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
