UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Thursday extended its stay order by two more months on the operation of the lower court order that had granted police remand for BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Responding to a petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order.
Earlier, on January 9, the HC stayed for a week the
operation of the lower court order granting police remand for Khandker Maubub, also vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, a statutory body regulating the lawyers, in connection with the criminal case.
Miscreants hurled 10-12 crude bombs targeting the office of Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna division) Maruf Hossain on January 4, a day before the 10th general election.
The following day, police filed the case with Ramna Police Station. Plainclothes police arrested Khandker Mahbub on January 7 as soon as he came out of the National Press Club after attending a discussion meeting on the January 5 parliamentary polls.
