The High Court on Monday exonerated Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Boalmari Upazila in Faridpur, and his office assistant Ukil Miah from the contempt of court charge in the incident of ill-treating and threatening two court staff on April 27 this year.
Giving warning for the future, the High Court asked them to discharge their duties with more responsibility and sincerity.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order after hearing a rule issued in this regard.
Earlier both the officials tendered unconditional apology to the High Court for their deeds.
Barrister Shafique Ahmed and Barrister Mahbub Shafique appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the UNO, while Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy represented the state.
Md Kamal Hossain and Mehedi Hasan, two notice issuers of the Faridpur District Judge’s Court, went to the office of Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer on April 27 with a notice of a case pending in the Senior Assistant Judge Court of Boalmari. Later the UNO treated them ill and threatened them to punish under a mobile court.
Earlier on June 7, the High Court summoned the UNO and his office assistant Ukil Miah on charges of mistreating and intimidating two court notice issuers- Md Kamal Hossain and Mehedi Hasan.
At the same time, the court also issued a rule asking the concerned bodies of the government to explain as to why punitive action should not be taken against them on charge of contempt of court.
On June 21, the UNO and his office assistant appeared in the court and sought unconditional apology to the court. The High Court on that day expressed its anger on the officer for his behavior to the court staff.
The court on that day exonerated the officials from personal appearance in the case and on Monday (July 25) exonerated from the contempt charge.
