HC drops bail plea of suspended DIG prisons Partha

The High Court (HC) has dropped from the cause-list a bail petition filed by suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division, Partha Gopal Banik, in a case filed over recovery of Tk 8 million from his residence in the capital.
The HC bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order on October 3, 2019, after considering a petition filed by his lawyer, Barrister Sanzid Siddique, to drop the bail petition.
The lawyer on Sunday said that they would submit the petition at another HC bench after the ongoing vacation of the Supreme Court till October 12. On September 30, 2019, Partha Gopal Banik filed the petition with the High Court through his lawyer challenging the trial court’s order rejecting his bail in the case.
Judge of Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka KM Emrul Kayesh on September 15, 2019, rejected a bail petition of suspended DIG (prisons) of Sylhet division, Partha Gopal Banik, in the case.
On July 28, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Commission detained the DIG after recovering Tk 8 million from his residence in Dhaka.
The DIG, Partha Gopal Banik, allegedly obtained the money through corruption.
Assistant director of ACC Md Salahuddin filed a case under money laundering act against Partha Gopal Banik the following day.
Earlier ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf quizzed Partha over allegations that he committed irregularities and corruption as DIG (prisons) of Chattogram division. The interrogation continued at ACC headquarters for about four hours.
After interrogation, the ACC team accompanied by Partha went to his Green Road residence and recovered the money.
They later detained him, and showed him arrested after the case was filed, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, ACC’s Public Relations Officer.
