The High Court on Monday directed authorities concerned to prevent Abul Khair Group and others from evicting and disturbing the peaceful possession of 75 families of Tripura community at Sonaichhari under Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram till further order.
Home secretary, Chattogram’s deputy commissioner, additional deputy commissioner and police superintendent, Sitakunda upazila’s nirbahi officer and assistant commissioner (Land), officer in charge of Sitakunda police station and other respondents have been asked to comply with the direction.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in four weeks as to why their inaction and failure to prevent Abul Khair Group and others from evicting and disturbing peaceful possession of the families of Tripura community at Sonaichhari should not be declared illegal.
In the rule, the HC also asked the authorities to show causes as to why they should not be directed to recover, restore and secure peaceful possession of people of Tripura community at Sonaichhari area. The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order and ruling following a writ petition filed by rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) challenging the legality of Abul Khair Group’s action to evict Tripura community people from Sonaichhari area.
