BASIC Bank recruitment: HC directives to probe into irregularities sought

A petition has been filed on Sunday with the High Court seeking to issue a Suo Moto rule to probe into the irregularities occurred in appointing 1173 employees in the Basic Bank during the period of former Basic Bank Chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu.
A Supreme Court lawyer, Titus Hillol Rema,

filed the petition yesterday annexing some news cutting after taking permission from the High Court Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir.
The High Court Bench may hear the petition today (Monday).
The petitioner also prayed to the court to direct the respondents to submit the audit report of the comptroller and auditor general office relating to the appointment of the employees and to order Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu for his personal appearance.
Cabinet secretary, banking and financial institution division secretary of the Finance Ministry, Bangladesh Bank Governor, comptroller and auditor general, ACC chairman, Basic Bank chairman and Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu have been made respondents in the petition.
The published report said, “Educational qualification, age, written examination or viva voce and recruitment rules were not followed in appointing the employees in the Basic Bank. The meritorious candidates were deprived of jobs in this state-owned bank.”
 “According to a report of the comptroller and auditor general office, huge irregularities occurred in appointing 1173 employees in the Basic Bank during the period of former Basic Bank Chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu. The report marked this irregularities as ‘unprecedented,” said the petition.
