At the same time the court asked the respondents to submit a report in one month stating the progress
of installing the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in every district and upazila headquarters.
The High Court Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order after holding hearing on a report submitted by the Liberation War Affairs Ministry over installing mural of Bangabandhu in front of the Freedom Fighters’ complex at every district as well as upazila.
Earlier on February 25 this year the HC directed the government to declare March 7 as the historic national day and publish a gazette notification to this effect within a month.
The authorities were also directed to erect mural of Bangabandhu in all districts and upazilas within the Mujib Year, the birth centenary of the Bangabandhu, and submit a compliance report in the court within one month.
The HC Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed seeking court’s declaration on the March 7 as the ‘national historic day’.
Complying with the court order, the Liberation War Affairs Ministry sent a report recently in the court which was placed in the court on Monday.
The report said murals of Bangabandhu and surrendering of Pakistani occupation army are under construction at the Suhrawardy Udyan in where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered the speech with raising his finger on March 7, 1971.
The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has already installed mural of Bangabandhu in 63 districts and 380 upazilas across the country, also read the report.
Following a writ petition, a HC Bench on November 20, 2017, issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why they should not be directed to declare 7th March as the ‘national historic day’ as Bangabandhu gave historical speech on that day.
In the rule, the court also asked the authorities concerned to show causes as to why they should not be ordered to reconstruct the stage and a sculpture of Bangabandhu delivering speech with waving finger at Suhrawardy Udyan where the historical speech was delivered.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed, former secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), filed the petition. The petition came to the cause-list of the HC Bench yesterday.
