Nusrat murder: HC Bench fixed for hearing death reference, appeal plea

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Monday fixed the High Court bench of Justice Soumendra Sarker and Justice Shahed Nuruddin for hearing the death reference and appeal petition in Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.
Mohamamd Saifur Rahman, special officer of the Supreme Court said the death reference and appeal petition filed by the convicts will be kept at the cause list of the bench.
The paper book has been prepared.
Death references in Nusrat murder case reached the High Court on October 29 last year.
A Feni court sentenced 16 people to death on October 24 last year for their roles in murdering the madrasa student. The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined each of them Tk 1 lakh.
The convicts are – Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa Principal SM Sirajuddoula, former Awami League upazila unit president Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nur Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin.
Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 last year on the rooftop of the educational institution, allegedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.
She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed at Sonagazi Police Station on April 8 that year. Police pressed charges before the court against 16 people on May 29.
