Staff Reporter :
A High Court bench on Wednesday felt embarrassed to hear a petition of Jobaida Rahman, wife of BNP leader Tarique Rahman, seeking cancellation of a lawsuit filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charge of concealing information about assets.
The petition was placed in an HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice J B M Hassan.
Deputy Attorney General Shaikh A K M Moniruzzaman Kabir told the journalists that one of the judges of the bench felt embarrassed to hear the petition. As the HC bench felt embarrassed to hear it, the documents of the petition would be sent to the Chief Justice who will constitute a new bench for hearing the petition.
ACC Counsel Khurshid Alam Khan said that the petition had already been sent to the Chief Justice. Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury represented Jobaida Rahman.
ACC lodged a case against BNP’s Senior-Vice President Tarique Rahman, his wife Jobaida Rahman and Jobaida’s mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu on September 26 in 2007 with Kafrul police station.
Police submitted charge-sheet against them on August 31 in 2008. Jobaida filed a petition seeking cancellation of the case the same year.
High Court stayed proceedings of the case after primary hearing on the petition, which was placed in the cause list on Wednesday for its final hearing.
