The High Court has suspended the movement of heavy vehicles for three months on the Rampura-Demra-Amulia road in Dhaka.
The road is in a dilapidated condition as trucks and lorries weighing more than 30 tonnes have been using it, whereas it can bear up to five tonnes, as per a report published last month.
The road stretches from Rampura Bridge to Amulia in Demra via Banasree.
AFM Hassan Khan, a Banasree resident,
has filed a writ petition with the High Court, along with the report.
On Monday, Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order on the petition.
It also issued a rule asking defendants to explain their inaction in preventing heavy vehicles from using the road.
Eleven people including the Road Transport and Bridges Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, Rampura OC, and Khilgaon OC will have to respond to the court in four weeks.
