The High Court on Thursday ordered the concerned authorities to suspend Md Durul Huda, a teacher of Rajshahi University School and College, who allegedly sexually harassed a student in October last year.
The court also asked authorities to take appropriate legal action against Darul Huda and issued a rule, asking them to explain as to why their failure to take action against
the teacher should not be declared illegal. Home Secretary, IGP, Police Superintendent of Rajshahi, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University, Registrar of the University, Administrator of the Legal Cell of the University, Managing Committee Chairman and Principal of Rajshahi University School and College, OC of Motihar Police Station and accused teacher Durul Huda have been asked to comply with the rule.
The authorities must ensure security of the victim on her way to school, the court said.
The Bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Hassan Talukder passed the order and issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Zubaida Gulshan Ara seeking necessary order.
She filed the petition on Wednesday with the HC as a public interest litigation following a report published in a Bengali Day on February 16 under a headline, “Sexual harassment victim unable to go to school: accused teacher on bail”.
Advocation Muhammad Mijanur Rahman Masum appeared for the writ petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar stood for the State.
As per the published report, “Mother of the student filed a case with the Motihar Police Station on October 20 last year.
