Delay in verdict: HC asks to show cause a trial judge

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Monday issued a show cause notice to a Speedy Trial Tribunal judge to explain in two weeks why the trial of a murder case could not be dispose in more than six years time.
A HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice ABM Hassan asked the Tribunal Judge Mumtaz Begum of Speedy
Trial Tribunal-2, in Dhaka to explain why she failed to dispose of the case in 135 days.
According to the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, a case has to be settled in 135 working days after the trial begins.
The murder case of Harunur Rashid, a vegetable trader from Mymensingh was filed on February 12, 1990.
After 19 years of the murder, the case was sent to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-2, on October 19, 2009. But the tribunal is yet to dispose the trial proceedings.
The HC issued the notice after accused of the murder case Abdur Rashid sought bail over the delay of the trial proceedings in the case.
Rashid has been serving in the jail for six years and seven months in connection with the killing case.
