The High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejecting the police probe report directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka to hold a judicial inquiry into the public humiliation and alleged assault of Headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta in Narayanganj.
The HC bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das ruled that the report submitted by the police saying that the incident was an ‘unexpected situation’ resulting from a rumour was “incomplete’ and ‘inconclusive’.
The police in its report failed to identify the real perpetrators, responsible for the humiliation of Head Master of Piyar Latif High School.
The HC fixed November 6 for passing the order in this connection and directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka to hold a fresh inquiry with a view to unearthing the offence and identify the perpetrators and submit the report to the HC by November 3.
The report cited Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the humiliated teacher, to say he and Salim Osman were victims
of an “unexpected situation that arose out of a false rumour”.
A video clip emerged on the social media which showed the headmaster in squatting holding his ears under direction of local MP.
The police submitted report on August 4 to the Attorney General Office stating that both Salim Osman and the schoolteacher were victims of circumstances.
