Disposal of polls complaints: HC accepts EC’s apology

The High Court (HC) on Sunday exempted the Chief Election Commissioner and five other officials from a contempt of court ruling after their offering of unconditional apology.
The HC bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order after accepting their apology.
The Chief Election Commissioner, four Commissioners and Senior Assistant Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman on November 26 appeared before the HC registrar office and sworn an affidavit offering the unconditional apology to the
in 2000. But the case filed against him is yet to end in 17 years. The case is also under trial in a Dhaka court. Nobody appeared in the court for Mokbul.’
‘Sentu Kamal of Motijheel AGB Colony was arrested in 2001 in a case. He was produced in a Special Court in Dhaka last month for the last time. But the court could not complete the proceedings of the case even after 16 years. Billal Hossain also embraced the same fate. as the murder case filed against him at Tejgaon Police Station is yet to make any headway. He is in Kashimpur jail since 2002. The case is under trial in a Dhaka court,’ the reports said.
They answered to various questions in the court yesterday. After hearing their answers, the HC granted bail to three prisoners and ordered to finalize another one’s case within 60 days.
Advocate Aynun Nahar Siddiqua and Kumar Debul De took part in the hearing on behalf of the prisoners.
