The street vendors demanded new law to protect their rights. Bangladesh Hawkers Union on Wednesday demanded it through a press briefing in an auditorium of the capitals’ Purana Paltan.
“We have demanded new law for the street vendors. Some of our neighboring countries already made laws,” said Abul Hashem Kabir, the convener of the organisation.
The hawkers also demanded one fourth of the spaces of pavements for their business immediately before their rehabilitations. They announced 10 points to meet their demands.
They will hold a representatives meeting today. They will sit for exchange of views with the local public representatives from 20 to 25th January and submit memorandum to them. A roundtable meeting on January 21 and Press Conference on January 22 will be held. They will lead a procession towards the Prime Ministers’ office to submit memorandum on January 27.
“Before eviction, the authority should have rehabilitated us. Without rehabilitations the eviction is an inhuman act,” the hawkers leaders said.
