Street vendors on Wednesday blocked the road in front of National Press Club in the capital city demanding release of one of their leaders who was picked up by police earlier on the day.
The hawkers said that police picked up
Bangladesh Hawkers’ Union convener Abul Hashem Kabir from Paltan area around 10:30am.
Abul Hashem was picked up while going to attend a rally organised by Bangladesh Hawkers’ Sangram Parishad in front of the Jatiya Press Club, said, Sekander Hayat, adviser of the union.
The hawkers were scheduled to hold a rally around 11:00am and besiege Dhaka South City Corporation afterward. The hawkers, however, kept the city road blocked from 11:30am to 12:30pm and then they moved towards Paltan area in a procession demanding release of Abul Hashem and rehabilitation the hawkers before eviction.
