Court Correspondent :Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim, a former teacher of North South University (NSU) and Canada’s Toronto University student Tahmid Hasib Khan were on Thursday placed on 8-day remand each for questioning them in connection with the attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan area of the capital.Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday after police produced them to her court with a 10-day remand plea for the duo. Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit Inspector Humayun Kabir produced them in the court. Advocate Sanwar Hossain Shomozdar submitted bail petitions on behalf of the two accused, while the court rejected their pleas. On Thursday morning, Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said on Wednesday night, DB police arrested them from Gulshan and Baridhara areas, Under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) for their suspected link with the attack. However, both of them were traceless for over a month. Abul Hasnat, also a businessman and Tahmid, Bangladeshi origin, also a permanent resident of Canada were rescued along with 11 others during the commando operation at the Gulshan café on July 2 following a 12-hour hostage standoff. The family members also claimed, they remained traceless since then. However, the law enforcing agencies claimed that they were set free after interrogation over the attack.Twenty hostages, including 17 foreign citizens, were killed in the attack, while five militants and one suspected associate of the attackers were killed during the commando operation on July 2. Meanwhile, on August 2, Daud Patwari, 31, caretaker of a house in the city’s Rupnagar area were placed on a 2-day remand for his alleged involvement in renting out a flat to one of the suspected Gulshan café attackers.
