Hasina wins South-South Coop Award

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been honored with ‘South-South Cooperation Visionary’ award of the United Nations (UN) for her leadership in taking Bangladesh towards progress.
Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy received the award on behalf of his mother at the closing ceremony of the Global South-South Development Expo in Washington on Friday, according to a message received here on Saturday.
Joy also spoke on the occasion and read out the
message of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Bangladesh is marching ahead under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina administration by ensuring optimum utilisation of limited resources.
This award is the reorganisation of that progress,” Joy told the local media in his immediate reaction.
Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN and President of ‘High Level Committee on South-South Cooperation’ Dr AK Abdul Momen presided over the closing ceremony attended by diplomats and representatives of various countries.
Bangladesh Ambassador in Washington M Ziauddin, Additional Secretary of the Economic Relations Division M Asadul Islam and deputy Chief of Bangladesh Mission in Washington Mohammad Abdul Muhith were also present. The award was the recognition to Bangladesh’s advancement under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in expanding information technology, ensuring healthcare to grassroots level, improvement of society’s distress people through safety net programme and success in poverty alleviation.
The weeklong ‘South-South Cooperation and Development Expo-2014’ started in Washington on Monday morning (local time).
