President of Krishak Sramik Janata League Kader Siddiqui has alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has violated the constitution nominating the mayoral candidates of the city corporations from Gano Bhaban.
“It’s a blatant violation of the constitution to announce party candidates from Gano Bhaban. The PM cannot announce her party candidates….There is no rule of law in the country,” Kader Siddiqui said on Saturday while exchanging views with some eminent
citizens on the 60th day of his sit-in programme at Motijheel.
Echoing the same view, Central Committee member of Bangladesher Communist Party [CPB] Abdullah al Kafi Ratan yesterday said that the PM has violated electoral code of conduct by introducing mayoral candidates for city corporation elections.
“It’s a complete violation of electoral code to introduce mayoral candidates by the PM. She [PM] also instructed her party leaders not to compete in the city corporation elections, except from the party nominated candidates,” he said while submitting nomination paper for city polls at Returning Officer’s temporary office at Agargaon in the city yesterday.
Earlier on Friday night, Awami League chairperson Sheikh Hasina confirmed Annisul Huq and Sayeed Khokon as the party’s official mayoral candidates for the upcoming Dhaka City Polls.
