UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will jointly inaugurate the second Integrated heck Post (ICP) along the Benapole-Petrapole part of Bangladesh-India border on Thursday.
The prime ministers of the two countries will join the inauguration ceremony from Dhaka and New Delhi through videoconferencing, while West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will join from Kolkata.
An official at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka confirmed it without elaborating further.
Both countries, however, think the Integrated Check Post will facilitate easy movement of goods and passengers across the border. The Integrated Check Post at Agartala along the Akhaura-Agartala was the first of seven Land Custom Stations along the Bangladesh-India border, being upgraded by the Land Port Authority of India. It was inaugurated in November, 2013, according to Foreign Ministry here.
The others are Burimari-Chengrabandha, Sonamasjid-Mahadipur, Hilli-Hilli, Bibirbazar-Srimantpur and Banglabandhu-Fulbari. The ICP at the Benapole-Petrapole part of the Bangladesh-India border is likely to have all regulatory agencies, including Immigration, Customs and border security, sources said.
There will be dedicated passenger and cargo terminals providing adequate customs and immigration counters, X-ray scanners, passenger amenities and other related facilities such as parking, warehousing, banking, service stations and fuel stations in a single modern complex equipped with state of the art amenities.
