Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka on Thursday for Canada to attend the outreach session of the industrialised countries grouping G7.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali
while briefing the media on Tuesday termed it “unprecedented” that a leader of a developing country would be attending the G7 meeting for the third time.
Earlier, Hasina attended the meeting in 2016 in Japan and in 2001 in Italy.
“This is the recognition of the prime minister’s strong role in world peace and development,” Ali said. It is also recognition of her “thoughts, philosophy, and steps” in addressing climate change, women and children affairs and the blue economy. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited 12 world leaders, including Hasina, to the G7 session. On Saturday, Trudeau announced in Ottawa that Canada will welcome several world leaders and heads of international organisations to the G7 Summit to take part in a special session, which will focus on healthy oceans and resilient coastal communities. It will be held on Jun 9.
