The BNP on Sunday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to India to negotiate for clinging to power.
He said there is friendship between people of two countries and, therefore, the Indian government should not support any one-sided polls in Bangladesh.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to India not to serve Bangladesh’s interest, but to negotiate to stay in power,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Prime Minister Hasina on Friday left Dhaka for a two-day visit to West Bengal, India.
“The Indian newspaper Anandabazar reported that Sheikh Hasina’s government gave away everything to India but in exchange Bangladesh got nothing,” said Rizvi.
The BNP leader said with reference to a Indian newspaper report, “In return, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s help to stay in power.”
“News published in mass media at home and abroad made it clear that Sheikh Hasina did not go to India for the interests of Bangladesh, not for getting Teesta river water and not for stopping killing of Bangladeshis on the border. She (Hasina) went for negotiating to stay in power. Because she fear losing power,” Rizvi said.
BNP central leader Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Ahmed Azam Khan, Habibul Islam Habib, Taiful Islam Tipu, Munir Hossain and Belal Ahmed, among others, were present.
