Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made it to the exclusive club of 100 leading global thinkers of the world as determined by the influential Washington-based journal Foreign Policy.
It is a prestigious journal covering global politics, economics and ideas. The Bangladesh leader has been named among the 13 top global thinkers in the category “DECISION-MAKERS” for her outstanding
contribution to addressing the issue of climate change, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib are the other heads of the government who have been named along with Hasina in this category this year.
Every year, Foreign Policy magazine recognises the world’s pre-eminent thought leaders in its annual issue, “100 Leading Global Thinkers”.
The list, begun in 2009, has become one of Foreign Policy?’s most popular features. Those honoured include a wide range of leaders, advocates, innovators, artists, government officials, and visionaries from around the world.
The editors of Foreign Policy select the 100 Global Thinkers based on their contributions over the past year and their ability to translate ideas into action that change and shape the world. In the past, US President Barack Obama, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Myanmar Leader Aung San Suu Kyi and former US President Bill Clinton were among the global leaders making it to the list.
