Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud urged the public relations officers (PRO) of different ministries and departments to be new-media friendly.
“Everyone will have to know about the works of public relations in the perspective of new-media and accordingly it is very important to be capable of doing the tasks,” he said this on Sunday while addressing a workshop on ‘the role of public relation officers on publicity activities in building Digital Bangladesh’ at an auditorium of Tathya Bhaban on Circuit House road in the capital.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Mokbul Hossain and former Secretary of the ministry Kamrun Nahar, addressed the workshop as special guests with Press Information Department (PID) additional principal information officer Md Shahinur Mia in the chair.
Hasan, also Awami League Joint General Secretary, said earlier the PROs used to issue a press release to cover a news and that was enough. But, the scenario of the whole media has been changed, he added.
The minister said it will be very effective, if the PROs make short feeds or audio-video clips of news and send those to television channels through internet or mobile. About three crore people watch televisions and nearly 6.75 crore people are using social media along with reading newspapers, he added.
He said many people would not get news if those (news) are not air through television or social media. For this, necessary equipment will have to be provided to them (PRO), he added.
Hasan said, “I, myself, follow the social media till midnight and even I talk to my public relation officer.”
The minister put emphasis on informing the achievements of different ministries to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Principal Information Officer and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
Palak termed the PROs as a bridge between the government and the mass media.
Murad Hasan, in his speech, put emphasis on using digital system on their works.
