Hasan urges EU to share media practices with Bangladesh

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has requested the European Union (EU) to share their best practices and guidelines for the print as well as electronic and online media with Bangladesh.
He made the request while holding a meeting with the senior officials of the EU in Brussels on Friday, a press release said here yesterday.
Ambassador of Bangladesh in Brussels participated in the meeting, while from the EU side, senior officials from offices concerning with foreign affairs, strategic communications and human rights joined the meeting.
At the meeting, the issues of media, online news platforms, the role of social media and the related challenges were discussed.
The information minister explained to EU how the Bangladeshi media has opened up, doubling the number of newspapers, tripling the number of television channels during the last one decade along with the thousands to applications under process for registration of online news platforms.
The EU assured the minister of providing all possible support and cooperation to Bangladesh for further strengthening its print, electronic and online media platforms.
The European Union (EU) officials termed Bangladesh as a “fast developing country” and praised the incumbent government for creating congenial environment for flourishing of media.
In the evening, the expatriate community members of Chattogram living in Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands organized a traditional ‘mezban’ (special feast) event in honour of the information minister.
The event that took place in the port city of Antwerpen in Belgium drew a huge crowd.
