Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday called upon UN and OIC to take initiatives to raise voice against atrocities in Rakhine state of Myanmar and send Rohingyas back to their homeland.
“The world community should raise their voices against the mayhem and there is an urgent need for intervention of the UN and OIC to put pressure on Myanmar government to take prompt action to bring back Rohingyas,” he said while addressing a human chain as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad (BSP) organised the event in front of the Jatiya Press Club here demanding immediate measures to repatriate Rohingyas to their homeland.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given shelters to Rohingyas on makeshift basis and assured them of livable environment on the humanitarian ground,” said Hasan, also a former environment and forest minister.
“The premier visited the Rohingyas at Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar and could not hold her tears after hearing their ordeals,” he said, adding, the measures taken by the Prime Minister to solve the Rohingya crisis are being praised by the world community.
But in the contrary, the BNP is criticising the premier instead of praising her for her well-thought-out roadmap to put an end to the crisis, he added.
