Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud sustained an ankle injury during practice at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday and he might miss the start of the Asia Cup.
Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon has confirmed that Hasan could miss the first round of Asia Cup but the official announcement is still pending.
“It is unfortunate that the lad gets injured whenever he starts getting into shape. I can’t say anything for sure about his availability for Asia Cup as no official announcement has been made. But it looks like he will not be able to take part in the first round of the Asia Cup,” the team director said after Saturday’s practice session.
Earlier Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief doctor Dr. Debashis Chowdhury stated the right-arm pacer will miss the two preparation matches on 21 and 22 August.
“Hasan has injured his right ankle. Now, he will stay under observation for 48 hours. However, he is unable to play the two preparation matches. An X-ray will be done, after which the condition of the injury will be understood,” he said to Cricfrenzy.
The young pacer’s comeback series in the Zimbabwe series went well as he took 5 wickets in two ODIs and one T20I. Hasan has been included in the Asia Cup squad based on his performance in that series.
The Asia Cup begins with Afghanistan taking on Sri Lanka in the opener on August 27.
Bangladesh have been paired in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Bangladesh will begin the campaign on August 30 against Afghanistan in Dubai.
