Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday blasted the BNP leaders particularly its secretary general for the denial of BNP-Jamaat’s mayhem under the banner of Hefazat Islam during the golden jubilee celebration of the country’s independence.
“The active participation of BNP-Jamaat in the mayhem under the banner of Hefazat during the golden jubilee celebration of the country’s independence and shifting the crime to others by the BNP secretary general are expression of falsehood,” he said.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, added: “I’m thinking of the time when he (Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir) might say that Awami League is responsible for Khaleda being infected by Coronavirus.”
The minister told newsmen at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.
He said there are video footages of all incidents of March 26, 27 and 28 which took place across the country including Chattogram, Brahmanbaria and Dhaka. Trial of the accused is going on and they have already given confessions, he aded.
He said the statement of Mirza Fakhrul Islam proved that they took part actively in the mayhem and now they (BNP) are denying their involvement in the incident. Such heinous lie is never desirable from a senior politician, he added.
Hasan said they (BNP) could have condemned the mayhem. But presently, they are trying to fuel the incident through lying, he added.
Replying to another query over the waging of movement, the minister said, “We have been hearing about movement by BNP during the last 12 years. But the reality is that our leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formed the government for three consecutive terms after getting verdict from the countrymen. They are doing mockery.”
Replying to another query over the cancelation of the title of Ziaur Rahman, the minister said the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will give the right answer on this issue. But the fact is that Ziaur Rahman cooperated with Pakistanis in disguise of freedom fighter, he added.
The minister said Mirza Fakhrul Islam was in power for two times. His (Mirza Fakhrul) father was a minister of Ershad and he was a minister of Khaleda Zia, he added.
He said the name of Bangabandhu was banned in all broadcast media including state-owned television when they (BNP) were in power and they distorted the history of the Liberation War continually.
Replying to a query over the mass media employees act, Hasan said the final draft has been sent to the Law Ministry for vetting. Later, it would be sent to the Cabinet, he added.
He said the act would give protection to the employees including electronic media.
