Noted writer Hasan Azizul Haque has been taken to Dhaka from Rajshahi by helicopter for better treatment there on Saturday.
Professor Hasan Azizul Haque has been admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). He is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital under cardiology specialist Prof Dr. Nazrul Islam.
An air ambulance carrying Hasan Azizul Haque left Shah Makhdum Airport around 10.30am for Dhaka. Imteaz Hasan, son of Hasan Azizul Haque, confirmed the matter, while talking to BSS over phone on Saturday afternoon.
The 82-year old academic has been suffering from different old age complications for the last couple of days.
Earlier, a group of well-wishers of Hasan Azizul Haque came up with the decision of taking him to Dhaka during a zoom meeting last night. Haque’s family members also agreed.
The zoom meeting was attended by Rajshahi lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha, Awami League adviser Prof Abdul Khaleque and Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, among others.
Haque’s well-wishers demanded state arrangements to ensure his better treatment.
He has been bed-ridden since he fell ill with an imbalanced electrolyte and heart disease.
His son Prof Imtiaj Hasan said renowned fiction writer Hasan Azizul Haque was undergoing treatment at his residence in Bihas residential area in Rajshahi city.
But he could not be hospitalised due to the family’s concerns over risk of coronavirus infection.
“We consulted seven prominent doctors in Rajshahi. None of them agreed to visit him at home. A doctor from Naogaon did. We were following his prescriptions,” he had said.
