The Dengue fever is on the rise in the capital city, scaring the people. The number of hospital admissions for treatment of Aedes mosquito-borne dengue patient is increasing day by day. As a result most of the city dwellers are in serious panic realizing the gravity of the situation.
At present, more than six patients are being admitted to the hospital every hour.
The two city corporations have said that they will work to kill Aedes mosquitoes by increasing their manpower.
However, experts say that it would have been easier to deal with dengue if preparations had been made before the start of the season after the outbreak.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 153 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country, including the capital city.
Of them, 150 were admitted to different hospitals in the capital and three outside Dhaka.
The total number of dengue patients admitted to the hospital is 57. Of these, 557 have been admitted in different government and private hospitals in Dhaka and 11 outside city. The data of four patients who died on suspicion of dengue have been sent to IEDCR for review.
Of the 153 dengue patients in the last 24 hours, 38 have been admitted to government and autonomous hospitals, 114 to private hospitals and three to hospitals in Chittagong and Khulna divisions outside Dhaka.
Consequently the city dwellers are really scared of the groom. They are confused enough as to whether it is corona, dengue or the common flu? It worries all the inhabitants.
Moreover, when people go to the doctor, they have to hear about the corona and dengue test results.
Dr Kabirul Bashar, an entomologist of Jahangirnagar University, said Aedes larvae were found in every ward of the two city corporations in the capital. Somewhere the density of mosquitoes has doubled. The number of dengue patients in the capital may increase in August than in July.
Two city corporations have started killing mosquitoes on the news of increasing dengue outbreak. This is a clear indication that untimely mosquito control measures have not worked, Dr Kabirul added.
Farid Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of South City Corporation, said the initiatives have been taken to kill mosquitoes by increasing manpower. The situation will come under control very soon.
“With 10 more executive magistrates from next Sunday, we will enter the each courtyard of the people’s houses,” he added.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that although the combing operation to eradicate dengue was hampered due to the cleanliness of Eid, the mosquito killing activities are being resumed.
“We have provided free dengue tests in 44 health centers,” he said.
As half of the Aedes mosquito larvae are born in the water stored inside the house, the two city authorities sought the cooperation of the building owners’ association, Mayor added.
