Harvesting of Aman begins in Joypurhat

Harvest of transplanted (T) Aman paddy, a highly valued crop, has been progressing fast in all the five upazilas in the district during the current season.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting bumper Aman production this year in the district as the crop grows excellently under favorable climate.
DAE office sources said harvesting of T-Aman begins everywhere in the district and those of early variety Beena Dhan-7, Bri 33, 39, 62 and Shorno-5 paddy begin from the first day of November.
Office sources said DAE set a target to cultivate T-Aman paddy on a total of 67,485 hectares of land in the district this year with the production target of 3.50 lakh tonnes of paddy.
Later, the target was exceeded and as many as 71,715 hectares of land with additional 4,230 hectares were brought under cultivation due to favorable climatic condition during the season.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success, DAE distributed high quality Aman seeds to the farmers of the district at fair prices.
DAE also provided trainings to the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation and crop management.
Deputy Director of DAE AZM Sabbir Ibne Jahan said favorable climate, proper distribution of high quality seeds and timely supply of fertilizers and other agri-inputs to the growers are the reasons for getting desired production of the crop.
