The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of Dhaka yesterday sentenced Harun-Or-Rashid, the lone accused in the case filed over killing Samia Afrin Saima, (7) after rape to death.
Judge Kazi Abdul Hannan of the tribunal delivered the verdict on Monday.
Nursery-grade student Saima of Silverdale School went missing after going out to play in the afternoon of July 5, last year. Later, her body was found on the 8th floor of their under-construction building in Wari of the city at 8 pm. She would live on the
sixth floor of the building with her family.
Later, her father Abdus Salam filed a case with Wari Police Station of the city a day after the incident.
On July 7, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Harun from Dabardanga village of Titas Upazila of Cumilla for killing Saima after rape. The following day, he made confessional statement in the court admitting his involvement in the murder incident. Harun would frequently visit his brother who lived in the same building. On October 30, last year, the Investigation Officer of the case submitted the investigation report of the case to the court. Later, on January 2, the court framed charges against lone accused Harun. The court recorded the depositions of 15 witnesses to deliver the verdict.
