UNB, Dhaka :
The BNP-led 20-party’s nationwide hartal that was enforced again on Tuesday 6pm after a 12-hours pause alongside its ongoing countrywide indefinite transport blockade passed off amid poor response until 7pm on Wednesday.
Sporadic incidents like damage of vehicles, arrest of pickets and recovery of bombs were reported from different parts the capital Dhaka, Feni and Narsingdi on the 65th day of indefinite transport blockade yesterday.
The opposition alliance first enforced its 6th consecutive spell of 72-hour hartal from 6am on Sunday to push for its various demands, including a fresh national election under a
non-party administration. The shutdown was scheduled to end at 6am on Wednesday.
Later, the 20-party relaxed the shutdown programme for 12 hours from 6am to 6pm on Tuesday for the celebrations of the Bangladesh cricket team’s quarterfinal berth in the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time. But, it extended the nationwide hartal by 48 hours till 6am Friday.
