Hartal, blockade lost bite: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque here on Friday said hartal and blockade programmes have petered out for lack of people’s participation.
He made the comments while talking to reporters after attending the district community policing rally.
The IGP said, “What has been going on in the name of movement has no involvement of people. These have faded away gradually and will not remain in the coming days.”
Programmes lacking people’s support cannot last long, he added.
About BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed’s ‘disappearance’, Shahidul Hoque said although police did not arrest BNP the leader, it is the responsibility of police to find him out.
The convention was also attended by deputy inspector general (Dhaka) of police SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, Tangail district administrator Fazlur Rahman, deputy commissioner Mahbub Hossain and superintendent of police Saleh Mohammad Tanvir.
